Early Start for Swans in FA Cup

STAINES TOWN WILL MAKE AN EARLY START IN THIS SEASON’S FA CUP

Having previously been advised that 21 of the country’s 160 Step 4 clubs would be required to play in the Extra Preliminary Round [EP] of the coming season’s Emirates FA Cup, the draw for these clubs was conducted today.  Of the eight step 4 divisions, three were to contribute 2 clubs to those drawn, and there would be 3 clubs from each of the other five divisions.  Our division, the Isthmian South Central, was one of those drawn to have just 2 competing in the EP … but then both Staines Town and neighbours Ashford Town (Middlesex) came ‘out of the hat’.  With this round scheduled for 7 August, it will be our first competitive game of 2021/2, and will mean the cancellation of our scheduled home friendly with Slough Town’s under 23 side that afternoon.  The draw for the initial rounds of the FA Cup takes place on 9 July.  The Club has only appeared in the Extra Preliminary Round three times in the past, recording 4-1 wins over Harrow Weald and RASC in 1923 and ’24 (when known as Staines Lagonda), and then in the most recent such tie, Staines Town lost 0-2 to Met Police at the Mill Mead ground on 1 September 1934.
